Architecture Overview
Architecture OverviewNexus runs a hybrid client that can operate fully offline or in a hybrid-cloud configuration.
The Windows (C#/.NET) client handles low-latency data access and high-performance memory-based parallel/fast table caching, then connects to either a local server on the LAN or to a single-tenant cloud database through NexusInterlink, a low-latency high-performance data broker written in C#/Sockets.
NOTE: if you have multiple locations, you may request a multi-tenant database for your locations.
File I/O communication is handled through a proprietary fast envelope file server/client layers for pushing/pulling images and documents, within settings - you may choose to forego and use Windows networking (SMB) instead for file throughput should you choose.
Option A (recommended): Local install (LAN)
Designed for high-performance on-prem networks with no internet required.
Supports isolated and/or centralized/clustered databases and unlimited clients per server.
Option B: Cloud-based System
Single-tenant per customer with low-latency client communication via NexusInterlink and the ultra-fast envelope/file pipeline (for assets like ID images, signatures, etc.).
Security & governance.
Per-user restrictions and per-machine rules, with extensive daily audit logging (who/what/when/where/why) with technical forensics per entry. Audit logging provides single-click rollback capability.
Accounting.
Built-in payments (cash/check printing, AR/AP, ATM) with export to QuickBooks, SAGE/Peachtree, CSV/Excel/XML, plus scheduled report delivery to accountants.
Peripherals & devices.
Unlimited scale connections over RS-232 or TCP/IP with auto-detect/adaptive stream handling; 2D driver’s-license scanning; event-based IP cameras; scanners, card printers, fingerprint and signature capture.
Multi-location.
Multi-company operation within a single database, with options to share inventory and customers across locations. Even in LAN mode: WAN-to-LAN p2p or centralized local cloud/VPN is easily configurable. VPN enables printers/shared folders/QuickBooks but is not required.)
Offline‑First Behavior
Cached enumerations and working sets enable full operation without internet. Local inserts/updates are queued with timestamps and merged on reconnect. Domain rules prevent conflicting state transitions.
Accounting Export (IIF)
Upserts customers/vendors and exports invoices/checks. Account mapping is configurable: CASH/ATM → CashAccount, CHECK → CheckAccount; names are pulled from per‑client configuration mapping tables.
Scale Integration
Nexus can communicate with any scale so long as it has weight output capability. Scale to machine RS232 hardwire or IP/ethernet is supported. Nexus' scale interface system uses algorithmic learning to extract live weights from the scale while being agnostic about it's formatting.
Stats for Nerds
Overall Code Base
768,273 lines of handwritten code.
Client Code Base
221,247 lines of handwritten code across 302 classes
Connectivity
MARS over ODBC. NexusInterlink provides hybrid cloud/LAN data switching.
Runtime Performance
- Multi-threaded architecture keeps the UI-thread solely independent ensuring workers never delay or hinder performance or user experience.
- Camera captures are sub-threaded and handled using an event based queuing agent.
- No default Windows controls are used. Listview, treeview, list boxes, etc. are all proprietary and written for high performance with UI drawing times of up to 120x faster than default controls in large-data environments
- Benchmark customer list retrieval and display: 63,128 customers took 0.0169 seconds.
- MySQL database is a few-to-many design, fully indexed and optimized, self-learning caches optimize using fast lookup tables and parallel iteration
